The National Park Service opened a two mile trail at the Glorieta Pass battlefield on June 14, 2009. We visited the site last summer and were disappointed in its lack of development as a historic site. Today, visitors have the opportunity to explore the battle by safely hiking through the area and enjoying a panoramic view of portions of the battlefield.

While visiting the Little Big Horn battlefield, I came across the following exhibit indicating how the horses used by the various Seventh Cavalry units were coordinated. The coordination seems to make sense relative to identifying the various units on the battlefield. Has anyone heard of this practice among cavalry units in the Civil War?
